GMC Manchester Chapter Spring Planning Meeting – November 8, 2025

Chapter President Marge Fish ran the meeting.
INTRODUCTION
…Marge welcomed everyone;
…everybody introduced themselves
Marge reported:
…a review of governance is on going at the Main club, questioning the needed number of
board members, their effectiveness
COMMUNICATION OFFICER
Christine reported:
… been doing an inventory of similar websites;
… doing Facebook, video announcement on GNAT;
… posters and flyers in the community;
… have a small inventory of videos, want to do more;
… questioning the proper use of signs at trailheads: These must be done by USFS and VFPR, cannot be done by the GMC sections
TRAILS AND SHELTERS
Marge reported:
… in May did trail work with students from Dorset, Mountain School;
… SMS students carried in wood for the tent platform and puncheon repairs on the south
side, which were then done in the fall by BBA students
… trail work by BBA students in the spring to collect the rocks, which 4 of our adult section
members used to repair the footings of the log bridge on the south side of Bromley
… GMC crews relocated the trail and built stone steps on the way up Bromley on the north
side this summer
…Brattleboro section member, Hubey, replaced some puncheon just south of Mad Tom
Notch
…Dorset students and Mountain School students did trail work in the fall
…both spring and fall we had adult groups doing trail work as well doing trail work
…THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE WHO HELPED WITH THE TRAIL WORK AND THE STUDENT
GROUPS
… sensors placed on trails near trailheads, to count users; it was noted that about
15,000/year were counted on Bromley S, less on Bromley N;
Keegen – GMC Trails report
… field season 2025; slide show;
… Haigh Cabin (Wheeler Pond) wheelchair access trail completed; Hadsel-Mares repaired;
… Lost Pond shelter posts replaced;
… Beaver Meadow floor and sill replaced;
… Spruce Peak shelter sill replaced;
… logs cut for Taft Lodge and airlifted to the site; work to be done next year;
… Battell will got a second shelter
… no more pit privies, all are either composting or mouldering;
… trail crew moved MANY stones;
… a small backhoe has been purchased, to make side-hill cutting easier;
… a minor relocation of the trail on Bromley north side;
… an article in the winter edition of the LT news will provide more details;
WINTER TRIPS
… Jan-Feb-Mar, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays
… Jan 31 – moonlight ski up Long Trail and down Bromley ski slope
… Feb 8 – Greg Hopper snowshoe;
… plan slower hikes also;
… request for hikes will be sent out, email notification of events;
SPRING POT LUCK
… March 27, 2026 (Friday) at Londonderry Rescue building;
