It is the time of year to clear the water bars on the 10 miles of trail that Manchester Section maintains on the Long Trail. This allows better drainage on the trail, helping to decrease how much mud we have, and helping to decrease how much erosion occurs with the heavy rains we are getting.

Saturday May 16 – cleaning water bars from Griffith Lake to the top of Styles Peak – this is an adults workday (though older teens are welcome) – we will meet at 8 am at the Mad Tom Notch Long Trail parking lot,, car pool to the gate on FR 58, walk about 2 1/2 miles to get to where we start work, work about 3 miles and walk out 1.6 miles back to mad Tom Notch, ending about 3 pm. We really need about 10 -12 people for this day – many hands make light work – we have plenty of tools and will teach what needs to be done – so please come out and help – this is also true for the other two trips below

Wednesday May 20 – Rt 11/30 to Bromley shelter – 2 miles of working – but with two groups, each doing 1 mile of actual work – working with4/5/6th grade students from the Mountain School in Winhall  – we need at least 6 adults to work along with the teachers and parents and students – please help if you are comfortable working with students

Friday May 22 – Mad Tom Notch Long Trail parking lot – working with Dorset School 5/6th graders in three groups – one going  to the summit of Styles Peak and two splitting the trail going south to the north peak of Bromley – we need at least 9 adults to work with the teachers and parents and students – please help if you are comfortable working with students
