Once again, hikers can climb an observation tower on the summit of Bromley Mountain in Peru,
VT. This 40-foot-tall steel observation tower stands on Bromley’s summit (3,260 Q.), offering
sweeping views of Killington, Okemo, Stratton, and Glastenbury mountains, and the surrounding
areas. It was built by GMC and Renaud Bros. Construction. The original wooden Bromley
Observation Tower was finished in 1962, and removed in 2012 for safety reasons. Soon after,
GMC’s Manchester Section began efforts to gather resources to rebuild the tower. Fundraising
was completed in 2019 and GMC worked to secure permitting and maintenance plans for the
structure along with the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation.
The tower is now open to the public! Bromley Summit via the Long Trail north is one of our
favorite hikes for a sunrise/sunset view. From the Long Trail Parking Lot on Route 11/30 in
Winhall, it is 3.0 miles, 1,460 Q elevation gain. Once you reach the summit, the grassy ski slopes
provide a lovely place to pitch a tent or have a snack. Then, climb the tower and take in the
view.
